The Clayton Summerfest 2012 Committee met Tuesday, July 10, with 13 members present. The business meeting was conducted by the President, Robert Smith. The Secretary report was given by Lois McNeil. Wilma Baker gave the Treasury report. The annual Festival will be held August 11 beginning at 7:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. with line-up at 10:30 a.m. Anyone wishing to enter the parade may contact Paul Burcroff at 445-2481. There will be a program at Memorial Park following the parade. The 2012 Queen will be announced during the program, also the Grand Marshals and Volunteer of the Year.
Following the program, games and activities will open. The Clayton Fire Department will offer rides to children in a fire truck. The Smoke House will also be on display. There will be a Talent Show at 1:00 p.m.; anyone wishing to join the show should contact Terry Deken at 448-2211. At 1:00 p.m., Ray Glisson will entertain, and at 1:30 p.m. Genevieve Randall (Rose) will take the stage. Plans may include a Children’s Sidewalk Art Contest. There will also be a Kiddie Tractor Pull. There will be several inflatables and wrist bands for the entire day are for sale from any Committee member. There will be a “Free Merchant’s Drawing” throughout the afternoon. Bingo will begin at 5:00 p.m. and street dance is planned for 8:00 p.m. The Festival activities will conclude with a fireworks display at dusk. This concluded the business meeting; a social time with refreshments served followed. The Committee will meet July 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall.
